T:A Server Settings Discussions
I don't have a T:A Server so I don't know all of the options. I would like to try the following though:

Core spawning (Pathfinder, Soldier, Jug)
Team Damage Enabled
5 Second Respawn
1 Sniper per team?

Fave Maps:

Crossfire
Katabatic
Arx Novena
Raindance
Permafrost
Drydock

The limiting 1 shrike per team was buggy because I kept jumping out of my shrike to grab or return a flag and then die and try to buy one again and it would not let me. It was because my old one was lying around in the field. Normally when you buy a new shrike the old one will disappear but limiting the server to 1 screws it up. And what if the other team steals your shrike? Are they then allowed to have 2 and your team is not allowed to have any? That situation arises also. I would like it to be a spoken agreement like no jackal or whatever, you just agree to only use one per team.

As for weapon bans I think copying whatever TWL does and do that. Or ban nothing at all and see what happens.

Good suggestions Gorthaur, thanks. I'll take a look at the TWL weapons ban is, and look forward to reading additional suggestions/input from others too. Big Grin

Edit: I have searched the TWL T:A ladder rules and cannot locate any weapons ban. If anyone is familiar with them or can point me to them, please do so.

Currently we do not have any weapons banned as that option isnt available yet. We can only ban/restrict the amount of classes.

They ban alot weapons, im not entirely sure the reasoning behind all of the bans. Especially when some weapons are not even on the list.

I think we should try to develop a list of weapons that are off limits by agreement. That might be a shorter list and more easily managed. Anyone who wants to add a weapon could submit it, along with a list of pros and cons concerning the weapon and have it voted on. The same could work for vehicles. Just a gentlemens agreement. Gorth is correct about the shrikes. If you leave a vehicle in the field, it is active until you change class of armor or it is destroyed. A gentlemens agreement might work better. So far we haven't had much conflict over the agreements we operate by.

These seem like the basic classes of armor, but defense and offense might want to include others. The maps would be great.

I have increased the vehicle limit to two, and increased the spawn time from 3 seconds to 5 seconds. I did not modify the map rotation list...waiting for more input on preferences. no mention of Blitz maps by anyone yet; I suggest we consider playing them again to get more input re: them.

In our current PUGs the points are meaningless. Call down inventories are free and vehicles are virtually free. While I love the shrike I do kind of agree with making it expensive so it is not available at the very start of the match. on TWL: Beowulf Price: 15000 Shrike Price: 36000. That's pretty damn high. It's good to bear in mind they also play to 7 captures instead of 5 so maybe price should be adjusted down a little bit to compensate or raise cap limit to 7? Call down inventories should cost something where it's low enough that you can usually call them down but not so low that you can just spam them near your flag stand every few seconds to block cappers.

This last PUG was my least enjoyed. I agree with the TWL ruling of 1 sentinel per team. I had 2 my team and we shut out the competition. It was zero fun for me on the winning side because it was so one-sided.

If we decide we agree with a lot of the TWL rulings we can make things easier for everyone by linking to that page in the teamspeak/private server or anywhere else our players will be, and also have an addendum with our differences from that. So we can tell new players that join our games, hey we use TWL rules with the following exceptions: 1. 2. 3.

In reply to Tasadar, if I understand your reply you think I want to limit the armors to those 3. What I meant to say was I would very very much like to try the "core spawning" option in the server where you spawn as either pathfinder, soldier or jug and then MUST use an inventory to change to a sniper, raider, brute etc.

I think this will be much more fun , making generators and stations more meaningful and also cut down on cheesy stuff like too many raiders, brutes and snipers.

What I mean is we will have an ability to counter cheesy tactics like fractal spam, whiteout grenades, cloaker jackal and smoke nades by keeping an enemy generator down, therefore denying them these specialized classes. We will be able to keep the flag game fun and exciting by killing an enemy sniper and then his generator so he will have to change to another class until his gens go back up. The flag will move around more instead of always dying as soon as sniper locks on to him. I think it brings more variety to the game and lets us ban things less. I am for trying to ban as few things as possible and I think core spawning may help enable this. Just talked to Spine and he said you guys tried that a bit already. I must have been out of town that week )=

I'm all for blitz sometimes. It could be a once a month thing or every other week thing. My map preferences apply for that also. Kata blitz cap 5 might not be as terrible with 7v7 on that level as well.

This thread has all the current Cygnus server settings.

They are very close to twl's with only a few minor differences. Currently the newest settings are the flag drag settings. We are testing out some of those settings to see if chasing is better and if we need to limit sentinnels to 1 or remove them.

No Gorth, I got your meaning about spawning in basic armor, I was just suggesting that maybe one or two other types might be voted on, after people post their request and pros and cons. I am happy with just three, but then again I only play in a couple of types, lol. The basic concept is very sound. I just wasn't very clear about my meaning.

Franklly Scarlett, I think TWL rules are maybe just a little too complicated and detailed reading for our casual games. Takes a while and I get distracted before I can finish them, lol. The weapons limits, and armor and vehicle settings might be enough.

Just a reminder to everyone that the server settings during the week are more..."liberable" in order for anyone to try shtff out. We tighten up the settings for the Saturday night PU. Please post any new/additional settings here that you'd like to try, and please don't be bashful. Big Grin

I personally would like to try the no sentinnel-speed cap settings. Just have to find the proper settings that everyone can live with. It would require extensive playtesting.
