3d Printing and Computer Build - Green Eagle - 11-18-2018 11:03 PM

Buying my first 3d printer this week, hoping it comes down a bit in price, if not, still purchasing on Friday $~400 with filaments to print with and a few add ons.

Comgrow Creality Ender 3 Pro 3d Printer with Upgrade

I have noticed on watching hours+++ on reviews that the learning curve is steep with these machines. I was going for a $900 model (+$80 in just material to start) --> but got scared and decided on the cheaper newbie model. Don't get me wrong. I was going to have to scrap and save over the next months to get the bigger one, but that learning curve just said to me, try something out first and pay it off over 3 paychecks.

I picked this one because there are a lot of mods and print templates that you can build to make this even better.

What do you think? any experience 3D printing?

I saw this video --> and I will be following this guy for a while this equipment.

I have no experience with one, don't know if I'd ever have a need to use one. What do you plan to use yours for if you don't mind me asking?

RE: 3d Printing - Green Eagle - 11-20-2018 11:17 PM

Number one use is just learn and create knickknacks and such. I will be buying the ABS filament because there are a lot of little things that I need, such as my Microwave only rest on 3 legs and not all 4, so instead of putting some cardboard under the 4th leg, I am buying a Pricey machine to build it Smile

The thing with 3d printers are that they will be just to make stuff and see things. There really is no real purpose to own one, at least in my situation/life. With the learning curve that comes with one, I maybe will be able to make models of stuff that I can give friends and family and/or if someone needs something and has an idea, I can print it up. I already envision that this may be a waste of money - but who knows, maybe I need something that I can't find (such as a makeshift holder of some sorts) that I can't find online. I already bought a cell phone stand for my phone while it charges, maybe I could have made that or since I am a roll your own smoker - a new case instead of buying a cheap plastic one, albeit it will be a cheap expensive one Smile

Just want to try it out, now that the prices have come down a little.

Sounds like you have a plan, and mostly to have fun with some practicality thrown in to boot. Let me know how it goes if you don't mind.

This option is really nice.

Found this link after trying to commit to buy one. I can't wait to try this out. Suxxors is that I do not know my learning curve for it.

I asked an online community with NextDoor, but the response was low, so I have to assume not a lot people use it so I will have to visit sights and other instead of peer reviews. eh, will be buying one, but need to update my PC first (not because of this though).

Eh, Once I upgrade the PC, then this will be what I get CR 10s

We will see Smile

With AMD cpu's there are some hurdles you have to cross with App building, so this time I am going with Intel. Hopefully it works out.

WOW! You are moving right along with your plan. I've been thinking about updating my pc also, in the past I've always purchased parts at newegg, but it has been several years since the last build. If you don't mind me asking, where are you making your purchases? I watched the youtube and looked at the link to the CR 10, is tempting me to get one too but out of my budget right now. I can see why you want to do this.

RE: 3d Printing - Green Eagle - 11-23-2018 11:13 PM

I am getting it at Newegg. I have a store credit card with them, they give no Interest for 12 months on larger orders. Decided to go I7 8700k to save a few hundred to put towards a better GPU and got a lesser Mobo. Sent you an email with the links to the list if you need them in the future.

This is my final parts list: (I was going to buy it this morning, but decided to just leave it in my cart until Monday to see if Cyber Monday would discount anything. Looks like they Sold Out of the GTX 1070 I was going to get (It is back to $600, but was on sale for $429, I lost out big not buying this morning.)Hopefully, I can find a good deal comparison on Monday to replace it.

It is out of stock until December, so waiting on that also.

RE: 3d Printing - OldeWolfe - 11-24-2018 02:51 AM

I'll look at your list with a fine tooth comb so to speak, but I have always used AMD processors and don't know a thing about Intel. Thanks for the info.

RE: 3d Printing and Computer Build - Green Eagle - 11-24-2018 06:18 PM

As for that video card, they actually have it in stock, I guess they sold how many they were willing to sell at that price hence the Out Of Stock memo on my cart. Oh, well. I went ahead and purchased everything but that GPU and replaced it with this one. $140 discounted on this sale.

It only had 11 reviews on NewEgg, but on Amazon it had over 700, so confident on this one.

So this was my final order. I already have an ATX Case, PSU and a bunch of case fans ready to go, so didn't need to buy those.
Going to clean up my old build from 2012/13 and probably sell it to offset this cost a little. I am actually going to put it in my Tower that has sat in the closet for years and put the new build in the same tower as my first build, it is still pretty nice.

Nice! Sounds great, good plan. Be sure and share pictures as the new build develops.
